My wife, son, and I were at the very last of the Folk Reunion shows with the Kingston Trio in Seattle on May 5th, 2005. Benaroya Hall in Seattle was jammed--I don't think there was an empty seat--and the crowed loved both the Folk Reunion with local Seattle icon Dick Foley, and the Trio. That was during Bob's tenure with the Trio, and the Trio was as tight as one could imagine and this with Zorn having been with the Trio just a little over a year at the time. Bob played the Conga on Maria, and did the lead if memory serves me correctly and did a fabulous job. His work with the Trio was top shelf, and as well, he and Meri were nothing but gracious after the show. Bob was kind enough to spend quite a bit of time with me talking Trio and folk music for which I will be forever grateful. Meri, as well, spent quite a bit of time with us as well, talking Trio, and making sure we were comfortable. We felt like members of the family.
Glenn Yarbrough did his set with the Folk Reunion, and likewise seemed gracious after the show autographing CD's and engaging in small talk. It's hard to believe he was 75 at the time. His voice still rings clear, and he allowed solo moments for Dick Foley and Rick Dougherty. Their blend as a group was remarkable. They also had a 4th voice, someone whose name I can't remember, who played bass and piano.
It will be a night I will long remember. Even if I get dementia, I'll likely remember that night, as it was a thrill to hear the music, make Bob and Meri's acquaintance, and to be treated so nicely afterward.
Regards to all,
Jim
