Peter I haven't seen the 4.2 back at my place yet still been busy with the rangie ...new polybushes and also I have swapped around my King springs at the rear ..meaning the drivers side that is marked drivers side is now on the passeneger side and ditto with the left...guess what it now sits level... as before it was leaning left. My front radius bushes were totally stuffed the inner tubes just fell out when I removed the arms...now with the yellow bushes its BLOODY WONDERFUL.
I have now done just over 2k on the new motor and I am a little disappointed in the performance It still struggles up hills and now is getting hot when doing so. I have been on some club trips towing my small camper trailer and I still feel it struggling up the hills, but it does seem to be getting better, perhaps I was expecting too much too soon.
I still haven't seen the rover 820 yet as my son has been bust too studying for his IT exams, but it will soon be here for me to drive and then sell.
I still like the blue motor as it shows up the oil leaks better...not that I have any at the moment.
Take care
Brad

: Thanks Brad .
:
: Still haven`t got to look for you stuff on
: aulro and in the mean time either my hearing
: is getting much worse ( which it is and the
: eyes too ) but it seems the noise is less
: though i haven`t driven it much now i don`t
: have to share the 85 as much .
:
: Hope you got that 820 sorted , had to google
: it haven`t seen one though i do look at
: Rovers and Jags when i notice them .
:
: Hope you sorted the 4.2 and it was a silent
: failure , had a fiddle with one not long ago
: it is a Ritter 4.2 has 4 cracked skirts ,
: one was broken off at the oil ring and other
: than a bit of noise at idle and a heap of
: smoke at 3000 rpms it ran well as it was
: falling to pieces .
:
: Had a look at the pics of you engine on the
: WA site and feel it`s an acquired taste ,
: hope you put some special markings on it as
: it may become know as a BRADTOT in the same
: manner that engine builders give engines
: their own colours .
:
: Good onya Brad , talk again .

: Hello Peter
: I could not be bothered making shims so I
: ordered and waited $55.00 Later they were
: here 3 different sizes so I could pick what
: I wanted that was best measurement.
: What space... its already filled with the
: old one...well no not yet but My wife is
: sorta happy its gone.Dont worry I will find
: some other part to put in its place.
: Comp ratio...well 9.35 is what I was told
: the pistons were as they were genuine 3.9
: with only a slight dish out of them 94mm
: from memory and with the tin gaskets and the
: heads skimmed by not much 10thou and I can
: still read the engine number on the block so
: there wasn't much off that . I hope its all
: still ok.
: Yes I have seen the one on ebay I am
: watching it ..but with low k's ...what will
: I do with it?
: I have my sons rangie coming back with a
: suspected cracked block/slipped liner as its
: using water and overheating...but not all
: the time. he has got sick of it and has
: bought a 99 disco diesel so I am left to get
: the rangie going and to sell it..this one
: has the performance industries 4.2 stroker
: kit in it so I am very reluctant to get rid
: of it. I may find a second hand motor and
: fit that to sell it off and that will leave
: me the insides to perhaps fit in the motor I
: just pulled out of mine?...we shall see. I
: also own a rover 820si that I repaired some
: time ago that is also coming back and the
: wife wants me to get rid of that as well .
: It had a head gasket problem but I fixed
: that and my son was driving it as a spare
: until we got the rangie sorted but he got
: cold feet and bought the disco. The820 has
: only done 109k and was being sent to the
: crushers . I rescued it and fixed it as all
: new parts and recon head were in the boot.
: It cost me nothing except the tow to my
: house. it looks like a Jag from the front..
: google it and u will see, and its british
: racing green as well!
: Another long post.......
: Borg warner ..if search AULRO on my name u
: should see the posts and writeup I did about
: it, Honestly they are dead easy to pull
: apart I still have 2.5 units here in various
: states of disrepair, chain, visc unit is
: really all u need to replace to have a quiet
: not clunky transfer case.
: In saying that I am toying up the idea of
: fitting the 95 disco zf auto box and lt230
: transfer case I bought of ebay with a low
: 76k on it..or so I was told. I got it from
: NSW and had it shipped over here at a total
: cost of $900.00 nobody else did bid on it so
: I got it and it really does look new.
: That will be another project in the future.
:
: I have also bought one of those TM2 engine
: alarms from e bay 149 delivered and I will
: be fitting that soon I got it with the oil
: alarm as well and an external relay output.
: I also received today from Paddocks in the
: UK the polybush kit...incredible what u get.
: That was $110.00 to buy plus $120 for
: freight . It was here in a week! so I got to
: fit that as well.
: One day I will have some time for myself....
: but here is a link to our club forum where I
: have posted some pics of the motor so u can
: see the colour

: Good onya Brad .
:
: Wouldn`t expect any less though .
:
: Importing shims from the UK , WA really is
: an affluent state , down here we have to
: make our own .
:
: What are you going to use the space in the
: spare room for ?
:
: What comp ratio do you have ? 9.35 plus how
: much ?
:
: I don`t mind Sky Blue as an exterior colour
: almost bought an 83 as such when we got the
: 85 but as an engine colour i`d have to see
: it .
:
: Have you seen the one on Ebay like yours (
: colour ) got 100k km on it with papers ,
: make a good parts car for ya .
:
: Good to see you do have the capacity for
: long posts too .
:
: While your here could you direct me to where
: your infomation is on the BW transfers , i`m
: sure i read and saw pics but don`t remember
: and can`t find where . Think our 94 has a
: whine in the Front diff but it may be the in
: BW , so need to do a bit of learning .
:
: Cheers

: Well after many years I have finally removed
: my new motor from my Games room/spare room
: and its gone into my 89 Rangie.
: This motor was originally intended to go
: into my 82 4 door that I thought would die
: but after some 525000kms when I sold it, it
: was and is still going now with its new
: owner. My current Rangie 89 has 379000k on
: the clock and even though the original motor
: was not noisy or had problems it was lacking
: power on the hills and towing a small camper
: I really felt it on the back poor old 3.5
: I now have a high compression 3.9 with a
: stage 2 cam pc216 heads shaved block decked
: roller timing gears tin head gaskets and
: lifter preload set with shims I bought from
: Rimmer bros in the UK.
: This motor started life as a 3.5 and was
: modified with new liners and brand new
: original 3.9 pistons to be made as a 3.9.
: I have been working on this on my own for
: the last 2 months on the weekends removing
: the old and fitting the new.
: I did have problems getting the bolts from
: the flywheel off as they are locktighted
: from the factory and I rounded one off even
: with the correct tool and had to drill it
: out.
: Tonight it all came to fruition when I
: started it 2 cranks and it was off as quiet
: as a mouse and so so smooth no clacking at
: all.
: I did get the oil pressure up before I
: fitted the rocker covers and intake manifold
: with a special tool I had made to go into a
: drill and then onto the pump drive so I
: could watch the oil drip from the rockers
: therefore making sure I had oil up there
: before I started it.
: so far it hasn't got hotter than it should
: and just sounds so good.
: I do have a steering pump problem as I have
: lots of movement in all directions so I need
: a new one of those and also a new viscous
: fan( I will get an xd/f ford one new)
: I am just so happy that all my hard work has
: paid off and no leaks yet that I can see. I
: now just have to run it in for a while...oh
: and I painted the outside of the block and
: heads SKY BLUE with the rockers left as grey
: and the timing cover grey and all the sump
: bolts individually hand painted black
:
: Catchas later
