Well after many years I have finally removed my new motor from my Games room/spare room and its gone into my 89 Rangie.
This motor was originally intended to go into my 82 4 door that I thought would die but after some 525000kms when I sold it, it was and is still going now with its new owner. My current Rangie 89 has 379000k on the clock and even though the original motor was not noisy or had problems it was lacking power on the hills and towing a small camper I really felt it on the back poor old 3.5
I now have a high compression 3.9 with a stage 2 cam pc216 heads shaved block decked roller timing gears tin head gaskets and lifter preload set with shims I bought from Rimmer bros in the UK.
This motor started life as a 3.5 and was modified with new liners and brand new original 3.9 pistons to be made as a 3.9.
I have been working on this on my own for the last 2 months on the weekends removing the old and fitting the new.
I did have problems getting the bolts from the flywheel off as they are locktighted from the factory and I rounded one off even with the correct tool and had to drill it out.
Tonight it all came to fruition when I started it 2 cranks and it was off as quiet as a mouse and so so smooth no clacking at all.
I did get the oil pressure up before I fitted the rocker covers and intake manifold with a special tool I had made to go into a drill and then onto the pump drive so I could watch the oil drip from the rockers therefore making sure I had oil up there before I started it.
so far it hasn't got hotter than it should and just sounds so good.
I do have a steering pump problem as I have lots of movement in all directions so I need a new one of those and also a new viscous fan( I will get an xd/f ford one new)
I am just so happy that all my hard work has paid off and no leaks yet that I can see. I now just have to run it in for a while...oh and I painted the outside of the block and heads SKY BLUE with the rockers left as grey and the timing cover grey and all the sump bolts individually hand painted black
Catchas later
