Hi there, back on for a change and feel I will let you have some of my great wisdom!!!!! (Yes I am up myself)

The reason for the cruise not working when the brake lights are on is simply safety.

The cruise needs to see a ground when it is engaged or in operation.

So if the globes have failed it won't work (WW).

If it sees power it WW.

If the fuses blows, it WW.

The valve on th pedal is a dump valve, if it is open it WW.

There is a switch in the gear selector (auto) on the clutch (manual). If they are not in the correct position it WW.

There are more safety back ups, if the vehcile slows out of the safe operating range, the cruise drops out.

Below about 50 kph the cruise won't engage or WW.

Recently I was testing a cruise in a high performance vehicle, it was raining. It suddenly took off, it wasn't even engaged at the time. This was the owners complaint andI didn't believe him. Near disaster, I absolutley emptied my bowels (had to tuck pants into socks when I returned to the workshop) had brakes hard on it was still accelerating, it started to overtake itself, switched ignition off, still shaking 2 or 3 weeks later. The control valve spring had failed and the valve opened on its own, very old cruise control, I have since updated the system and fitted a dump valve, with a second switch to guarantee safety, believe me it is realllllly scarie.

So please beleive me these items are fitted for safety only.

Another really common fault is the steering wheel clock spring connections. So unpredictable and you can't understand why it suddenly works, wiggle the steering wheel.

I hope I have bored you, because you already knew all this.
