Back in June 2007 I posted a piece on the cruise control and how I fixed it, well it seems that apart from the other problems I had mentioned previously there was still one that I had missed and it kept rearing it's ugly head infrequently, that is to say while driving on a long trip and after slowing down to 60KPH for a town, once out of it the cruise control would not engage for another 50Kilometers or so and was very iregular in it's behaviour.
I finally found the problem, while on a trip and trying to get the CC operating I happened to look through the rear vision mirror in the Old Girl and noticed the high level brake light was on so I gave the brake pedal a light tap and off it went, then I tried engaging the CC and guess what? it worked.
The problem was a faulty brake pedal switch, replaced it with a new one and the whole system works faultlessly.
So I could well and truly understand someone else with a rangie that has no high level stop light, being totally lost as to what may be causing a similar problem with their vehicle.
