Hi Zorba
It does seem unusual that both were playing up and I'm not quite sure wether it was both or just one of them, I just pulled them both out, cleaned them up etc. and everything worked OK. After which I did all the door switches just to make sure.
The tailgate one was playing up as it was not switching on when needed and the bonnet one was damaged when fitting the new motor a couple of months ago, didn't bother to find out what it was doing just fixed it.
So I'm a bit in the dark myself as to which switch was the culprit, sorry.
I'm not sure about the similaralities between the 93 and 97 setups but according to the trouble shooting electrical manual I have on the 93 there is a lot of pickup points to consider when trying to track down the problem, for a start there are 16 wires to the alarm ECU any of which may effect the operation of the whole system.

: G'day Patrick
: Seems unusual that both of those switches
: would 'pack it in' at the same time.
: Don't know much about the workings of the
: bonnet switch but I've just spent quite a
: bit of time checking out the tailgate switch
: on my P38 - not sure of the similarity of
: the T/G switches in your '93 and the '97
: HSE.
: Were your switches not 'turning on' (staying
: open circuit) or not 'turning off'(short
: circuit)?

: Hi Blokes
: Recently had a problem with the
: alarm/central locking system in my 93 Vogue
: SE, it would not unlock or lock with the
: remote, once in the old girl via the door
: key I could not start or turn over the
: motor. After doing a bit of checking around
: I found the problem's, one was the bonnet
: alarm switch and the other was the rear
: upper tailgate switch, if not working
: properly both will effect the operation of
: the alarm/central locking system.
: So there you go.
