I believe thinner glass was introduced in the side windows in about 1989 to solve the old problem of the electric windows being slow to close, i.e. the thick glass was too heavy. Haven't heard of the same with windscreen glass. If I get a chance I'll see if I can figure an easy way to measure the thickness of the windscreens in my 1988 and 1994 Rangies.
