I went down the route of a 4.6 upgrade to increase performance. From my experience on this option only, it is an expensive one as it is not only the engine you need to upgrade but all the other ancilliary components to get the most out of the engine (i.e exhaust, inlet manifold+plenum, ECU, radiator, CAM shaft, torque converter, possibly gearbox etc). I would expect that to get a real boost in performance across all rev ranges with a 4.6 you would need to spend around $15k on the upgrade. My thoughts anyway.
