G`day Kevin , thanks for your thoughts .

Biggest problem is it hasn`t done it for around 6 mths .

If it chose not restart at all , as you know it would be easier to locate the problem or as you suggest problems .

Ours has a manual prime , just press the button on cold start and it will only not start from cold if the button isn`t pushed long enough . The fault never occures at cold start only ever after it`s been running and it could be 2 km or 200 km but only after it`s turned off and on restart .

I understand the spark thing , i usually only change plugs when is starts to run a bit rough or if i have them out but neither is very often .

Recently it was running rough and was giving around 4.5 K/L with new plugs it gives around 5.2 K/L but i feel any economy figs are not exact only a guide as there are so many variables but as it happened i had to do 2 trips to Melbourne , changed the plugs inbetween and was able to use the same fill points/pumps with similar conditions and the 5.2 involved more traffic .

I have been looking at the multispark CDI units but i`ve not found any that can be adjusted to do advance and retard variations which would be useful for lpg and what is about seems very expensive but will do a form of retard .

    Cheers , Peter .

    : G'day Peter,
    :
: Just a bit of lateral thinking.
    :
: 1. Don't believe you only have one
: problem ... there could quite well be
: two situations which in combination
    : cause the starting difficulty.
    :
: 2. Too many people believe that
: starting issues with LPG are all
: starvation or lean mixture. Not so.
: You can flood LPG the same as petrol.
: My '85 would start easily if primed
: once, but wouldn't start if primed
: twice. My Kombi was different. With
: it I had to prime once and then turn
: off the gas switch until it had fired.
: If the gas was left on it would flood.
    :
: All the starting problems with the '85
: disappeared when I fitted the Buick HEI
    : distributor. (I think it would've
: ignited sump oil if I'd tried!)
    :
    : Best of luck.
