    Hi guys,

All good things must come to an end and so my association with Range Rovers. We are looking at doing some long distance touring in the next year and are looking for a more economical (and newer) 4wd to take us around.

As such, I am having to sell off my 87 Rangie. I have advertised on the trading post, website:

    http://www.autotrader.com.au/iteminfo/adnumber_WZ2663208886_loc_locRZSQregtAVSCdistRZSQAVSCstateRZSQ3AVSCregRZSQ_off_0_sect_Automotive_sort_otRZSQ1BJDZfdRZSQSearchDisplayPriorityIndAVSCotRZSQ1BJDZfdRZSQFirstPublished_sqt_0_srchby_mmbsRZSQMakeAVSCsrchbyRZSQmkmdlAVSCmkdlsRZSQRange+Rover_stpg_1_subs_Used+Cars_

You can find some photos of the vehicle there.

As a summary of the vehicle and what has been done to it I will list below:

    - New 4.6LV8 short motor with recon heads and new timing gear (lifters, chain, rockers etc) fitted. Approx 3500km done on the new engine. All receipts available.
    - Haltech E6X ECU fitted (by previous owner) and mapped professionally to the new engine (dyno was 91kW at the wheels) - graphs available. Laptop with software will come with the car. Haltech system does not use the original air flow meter and is a simple and reliable ECU system with support available in all states.
    - New radiator (with engine replacement) and hoses. Heater radiator was also replaced (pig of a job!!)
    - New 120AMP late model Rangie alternator fitted
    - New Power Steering pump and new high pressure hoses fitted (steel braided industrial hoses)
    - New water pump and timing cover fitted
    - ARB rear locker and air compressor fitted (by previous owner) and rear axles uprated. All rear axle bearings and seals relaced recently (by me)
    - Front diff rebuilt by Max de Burg in WA (Landrover Diff expert)
    - Front seals including swivels all replaced (during diff replacement)
    - 4SP auto and torque converter reconditioned by Joran Rovertech (approx 6000km ago). Included new Auto select cable (expensive!!) and the t/case input gear (drilled for oil flow) and auto output gear.
    - Bearings, seals and shims replaced in transfer case.
    - The vehicle is fitted with a 2" body lift and 2" spring lift for a total of 4" of lift. All radius arms have been retrofitted with aftermarket offset arms to help counter the effects of the lift on axle articulation and steering. Vehicle fitted with Rancho shocks. Front nolethane bushes fitted and rear rubber body mounts fitted (ny myself) as old rubber bushes were flogged out. Also, front brake lines lengthened to cater for lift.
    - The vehicle is fitted wih a snorkel and K/N filter on air intake.
    - Diff protectors fitted on both diffs.
    - the vehicle is fitted with a steel (ARB??) bullbar and WARN 8000lb high mount winch. I did not fit the bar or winch but have re-built the winch and replaced all seals and the brake assembly.
    - The vehicle is fitted with Garmin 40 channel CB and UHF radios.
    - The airconditioning system has been changed over to R134A refrigerant, the compressor changed out and the system hoses and fittings replaced where necessary. the last air-con service was 1yr ago and it works fine.
    - The vehicle is fitted with a full length aluminium powdercoated roof rack (not sure of the brand).
    - All tyres are 33" BFG mud terrain tyres, spare brand new, the rest of the tyres 80%+
    - The car is fitted with a dual battery system (Redarc) with two HD 4wd (660CCA) batteries, one 6mths old, one new.
    - Tailshaft unijoint bearings replaced (rear tailshaft re-balanced by Driveline in WA)
    - The vehicle is fitted with a second aircon compressor which is used as an air pump. the rear bumper is an air tank with a hose connection (hose included) to allow fast pumping of tyres. I can pump all 4 tyres from 12PSI to 40PSI in approx 10mins.

I'm sure I have missed things but I can answer any queries anyone has.

Basically, I purchased this car about 4yrs ago in Perth. I have done about 15,000km in it in this time. Most of the mods above have been done by myself during this interval.

    Problems with the car:
    - Transfer case - while I have replaced the bearings and seals and set preloads etc the best I can, it whines like a b###h when warm and is quite clunky with a lot of backlash. I had a price from Triumph Ropver Spares for a low km late model Disco LT230T case delivered at $1200. If I was keeping the car this is what I would do. However, the t/case is pretty bulletproof so no prospect of failure. Just VERY annoying.
    - Idle speed control stepper. Haltech sell this as an optional extra. It has been fitted but was not set up by the programmer when they mapped the engine in 2007. I have the car idling well off the normal bleed screw but can stall when initially cold. Darwin is NOT cold so I would recommend having a Haltech agent set this up properly if you are from down south. probably about $250 for the work. The stepper is about $140 if it needs a new one (existing one is not very old though).
    - PSteering box - still ok but does weep a bit of oil and has some play. Not enough to fail NT rego though. All Rangies leak at the box. Depends if you want to spend the money on a reco PS box though or just put up with it.
    - Auto to transfer case seal. Still leaks a TINY bit even after replacing. Not noticeable most of the time though.
    - Automatic trans oil cooler hoses need replacing as they leak a bit. Unfortunately they weren't replaced by JRT when they recoed the box.
    - Still a bit of a rear main oil leak. Bit of a Rangie thing I think. the seal is brand new with the new block but seems to leak a little still. This and the Auto cooler hoses are the only real oil leak of notice under the vehicle (believe it or not lol).
    - Rear passenger electric window regulator desn't work any more (failed recently)
    - Front central locking motor is intermittent. I replaced all the motors with one of those cheap units you can buy pretty much anywhere. All work well except this one.
    - Rear demister doesn't work and rear window wiper is a bit intermittent.
    - Speedo is a bit out and doesn't read below 20kpH. I have looked on Ebay for a replacement but always seem to miss them. hasn't really bothered me too much though.

There are a few bits and pieces I can sell with the car:
    - Socket for wheel nuts (cost me over $80.00)
    - laptop (old lol) with haltech software and cable
    - K/N filter cleaning stuff
    - Full set of spare belts and hoses
    - Rebuild manual for LT230T, Haynes manual (well used) Haltech manual and wiring diagrams as well as all receipts for the parts (I have most of them)

In terms of a price, I have advertised in the NT trading post at $11k. Considering I purchased it at $16k originally and have performed most of the above mods myself I'm losing out a bit (I will always have the memories though).

If someone here from interstate is interested I don't mind dropping the price to help with freight (about $1500 last time I checked).

Obviously a bit of a risk with a Rangie if you can't see it. However, if anyone is interested and would like to have a chat please feel free to call me on (08) 89321551 or email me on jbcarey@westnet.com.au.
