    Re: Noisy Lifters??

This is often caused by a faulty non return valve in the oil filter.
Just try a new filter as they vary. ryco are OK but I have found Perolator the best.

    : Hi Guys,
    :
: I have replaced my old 3.9L V8 (as some
: of you know) reasonably recently with a
: new 4.6L V8. The setup was a brand new
: block with reco heads, new cam, tappets
    : rockers etc.
    :
: I have done about 1000km with the new
: engine and notice that when cold
: starting the engine in the morning (as
: cold as it gets in Darwin anyway) that
: there is quite a lot of what seems like
: lifter noise for a second or 2. The
: noise pretty much quietens down
    : straight away.
    :
: Until the car warms up a bit (a minute
: or so) there is a bit of discernable
: lifter tick. Once the engine is warm,
: it runs nice and quiet.
    :
: When I put the cam, lifters, push rods
: and rocker assemblies together, I
: purchased a shim kit for the rocker
: shaft mounts and set pre-loads as per
: instructions on both the shim kit
: packet and the RPI V8 website (can't
: remember the tolerance I used but
: obtained and verified these tolerances
: with the Land Rover rep in Adelaide
: where I purchased the engine).
    :
: Just seems odd firstly with the cold
: start noise and subsequent lifter tap.
: Previous rangie engines I have had have
: never had that initial noise and only
: have lifter tick after the timing gear
    : starts to wear.
    :
: My question is if anyone else has had
: this sort of thing occur and whether or
: not it is normal for Hydraulic Lifters
    : to lose their prime??
    :
: Any help or experience would be
    : appreciated.
    :
    : Thanks
    :
