I thought it was a fascinating approach to that source material, i.e. how they invented the whole first act, and used the movie as the basis for Act Two. Christine Ebersole should get a MacArthur Genius Award for her performance. It is insanely brilliant. Do you know her? If so, you start warming her up about my music, and then I'll slide in and ask her to do my podcast. :-) Every once in a while, I hear a song, and I think: That is a perfect song, completely inspired. Scott Frankel and Michael Korie have written one of those for this show. In the workshop I saw, it was the song that ended Act One, a thirties-style ballad (in 3/4?) for Christine. It blew me away.
