Birmingham had been playing hard-ball with Liverpool over Butland with the Reds not meeting their asking price for the player. However, the Championship club is in dire need of cash following financial troubles and is looking to sell their star players to interested parties in order to fund a takeover.
Birmingham have reduced Butland’s valuation in the last week to close to £3 million to invite offers but no club has gone beyond the enquiry stage. However, Chelsea are keen to upstage their competition by tabling a late bid as the transfer window draws to a close.
The European champions have Petr Cech and Ross Turnbull as their options in goal with Thibaut Courtois on loan at Atletico Madrid and tipped to take over from Cech. Signing for Chelsea is an opportunity Butland would want not to miss but he would have wait in the wings to get his chance to be the No.1 at Stamford Bridge.
Forget SOUTHAMPTON & EVERTON.
It's only LIVERPOOL or CHELSEA.....Chelsea are best bet.
