There have been a number of posts on this board relating to the lack of support down St Andrews.
There seems to be a lack of understanding of the situation. It is not always black & white.
We are in a recession and the West Midlands has been severly hit by the downturn. Many supporters cannot afford to attend games. I paid £35 to watch Sunderland plus £2 for paying by a switch card not a credit card. No other commercial outlet would dare charge for switching. It's disgracefull.
The Vile have historically better attendances than Blues based on reasonable match day & season ticket prices.
The old board continually ignored young supporters. Their kids for a quid was a flash in the pan. There was no ongoing policy for increasing the club support. Season ticket prices & match day prices should be nomimal not half price. The kids are the future of the club. If parents cannot afford to take them your potential future fan base will shrink dramatically. This is now being seen at Blues. A testement to the money making short sightedness of the previous board.
The football played at St Andrews over the last 5 years has been dire. Only the last couple of performances have really generated genuine exitement amongst fans.
I think most fans would rather watch the real thing than internet streams.
For me I have been picking my games this season. I cant afford to attend every home game. However if the new board seriously reduce prices I will look to have a half year season ticket for 2010 and would also look to continue with a full season ticket for 2010-11.
Can I suggest those supporters who contine to mock the stay away supporters get off their high horse and be gratefull they can afford to attend games. It is not easy for a lot of people out there.
I think when the economy improves & with realistic ticket prices fans will return.
