Your gut is telling you what is best for you and Brian knows that you doing what would be disasterous for you out of misguided guilt (thinking you'd be selfish if you didn't go) is not the thing to do. You will both have a truly lovely vacation at the right time. Be kind to yourself now, and know you aren't selfish... you're wise!

Road trips are difficult at the best of times.
You both are very smart to postpone this one.
And why a road trip? Could you do something really relaxing like a cruise or something? They have some good ones leaving out of San Diego, and you'd only be gone 5 to 7 days.
Of course, I'm biased. I've been dragged on the most horrendous "vacations" that were anything but, and when I went on my first cruise and got a taste of the good life, I told the b/f I was NEVER going on a crappy vacation against my will again. And I haven't. - The selfish thing....msg

would have been to go without telling him you feel, and then acted how you feel the whole time. Telling him, and postponing the trip, was very unselfish, and brave.

No, LV, you are NOT horrible. Long drives can be very exhausting - especially if you are not in a "road trip" mood. Hard to have fun and enjoy the trip if you've got baggage at home like this.
Better for everyone to postpone it until you can let go of home and focus on relaxing... but once your mom's house is sold please DO go... you deserve some time to enjoy.
BTW - you need to get a BMW for a trip like that. Don't forget to bring a cat carrier with you, too.

tired and busy people. It talked about how exhausting vacations can be and how important it is to sometimes just stay home and spend time together without the pressures of work and the demands of travel. So, you are not alone in this, and you are doing the right thing. Don't feel guilty at all.
To tell the truth, I've done it myself. Sometimes when work has been rough and vacation rolls around, I've sent hubby and kids off to the beach on Saturday, joined them on Monday or Tuesday, and left again on Thursday or Friday. It's just sooooooo relaxing not to face the vacation traffic and to have quiet time at home while everyone at work thinks I'm out of town. - I take one every winter...

I usually take a month off in the winter and go nowhere. I hang out with the dogs, play in the snow. I love it. Even if I could go somewhere(I can't get a dogsitter), I probably wouldn't!

I never went anywhere on vacation, I stayed at home and cleaned house, laid in my little snapset pool and read books. I wouldn't answer the phone, I'd let the machine get it.
It was so nice.
I've cancelled the petsitter and put in a call to my in-laws to let them know to cancel the reservations for us and that hopefully, we can make it later this summer.

Especially because this is a trip that can easily be postponed until you're up to it (just you two visiting relatives is easier to reschedule then something like your Disney trip in the fall).
I almost always feel the way you do before any vacation that is longer than 3 or 4 days away. I don't like being away from home either. Throw in everything you've had going on lately plus coming home to sick cats the last few times you went away and I think postponing the trip is a very reasonable request. That is nice that Brian is okay with putting it off for awhile too.

You're still grieving the loss of your mom, you've lost your furbabies every time you've been away lately. That combination is pretty depressing. Mother's Day is this weekend. That's also depressing. I think if you went, you'd probably be miserable the whole time, and fearful. Is there any way Brian would go see his family and let you stay home? Or maybe you can go in a few months, once you feel more settled. It's too soon. ((((HUGS)))) - No. I am like that too and reading how you felt
