When the mother's health is in danger then she can't do much about it if she has to have an abortion.
I don't think it is "empowering", but it is "liberating" in the way that, if a woman gets raped for exemple, she won't be forced to suffer nine entire months for something she's not even responsible for (and no, wearing mini skirts or skimpy tops doesn't make you responsible or even half responsible at all for the rape).
I don't get that thing about the pro-lifers, it's always all about the unborn baby but what about the mom? And playing with people's feelings by calling them "poor little defensless innocent beings" and showing all these pics of aborted babies doesn't change anything about the fact that women suffer of it too whilst at some stage of the pregnancy these "babies" can't even feel pain or be aware of anything, it would be just like the woman had been on the pill and the "baby" never existed.
An undesired child can have awful consequences on a womana and a man's life (the man is able to run away by breaking up with his girlfriend while she's pregnant though), especially when they aren't physically, emotionaly, financially and mentally stable. Besides a child can feel it when it's undesired or when its parents don't love him and it can have an influence on him. Sometimes it can be better for a child not to be born than giving him an awful and desastreous life, growing up with parents who never wanted him.
