I agree with some of what the folks are saying, but to say Hawke is a good defender is simply a joke. He also doesn't play when a left hander is pitching, Hopkins does.
: It is not just that the wind blows out or that
: many more HRs are hit due to the thinner
: air. The biggest impact is what that
: environment (thin air) does to the breaking
: stuff of opposing pitchers, resulting in
: inflated batting averages. But you are
: right, playing more than half of his games
: in that park is a huge advantage to Hopkins.
:
: Another thing that Aggie fans typically do
: not consider (and I am glad that the Sun
: Belt is finally beginning to consider) is
: defense. Hawke is the best defensive first
: baseman in the Sun Belt.

: Hopkins plays in an offensivly better park,
: I
: mean c'mon...what decent hitter would post
: HUGE numbers playing half of their games at
: a pakr like that where the wind is
: constantly blowing out at 20-30 mph...I know
: that the Park NMSU plays in had to come into
: play when looking at their numbers. I don't
: know this for sure...but I'd be willing to
: bet Hopkins numbers on the road arent nearly
: as good as his numbers at home...Just like
: NMSU as a team in general...

: i'm not going to spoil all the fun for you
: out
: there about tonight's award ceremony, but i
: must ask how a player like Luke Hopkins
: who's had the season he's had (both in
: conference and out of conference) is not
: atleast a 2nd team all-conference selection?
: i totally understand that ASU's geoff
: desmond would and has beaten him out for the
: first team all conference 1b, but how does
: phillip hawke get 2nd team over Luke? take a
: look at their stats.
: 27 Hawke, Phillip... .324 57-55 176 58
: 57 13 1 10 42 102 .580 57 6 41
: 6 .496 3 2 3-3
: 8 Hopkins, Luke.... .397 54-52 204 57
: 81 19 0 13 76 139 .681 39 0 36
: 4 .486 4 0 2-2
: Luke has a higher batting average, more
: hits, more doubles, more homeruns, more rbi,
: more total bases, a higher slugging%, and
: fewer strikeouts. and look at luke's
: conference stats: avg. ab r h rbi 2b
: 3b hr bb
: .404 94 30 38 35 10 0 6 20
: and those 35 rbi led the conference. i
: understand that conference's like to reward
: seniors, and luke is "only" a
: freshman but this is rediculous. i have
: other bones to pick about some of tonight's
: selections, but i'll bring them up later.
: can someone explain this to me.
