Posted by Bleacher Creature on 2/3/2006, 9:37 pm National League Most Valuable Player Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals will participate in the event. He is in town this week for several charity events, including Thursday's Albert Pujols Charity Golf Tournament and Reception at Heron Lakes Country Club to benefit "A More Excellent Way ministry." Pujols, who was named the NL Rookie of the Year in 2001, the same season Luis Gonzalez delivered the World Series-clinching hit in the ninth inning of Game 7 to beat the New York Yankees, will compete against Gonzalez, Marlon Anderson and one of three former Jags now playing in the minor leagues -- Adam Lind, Ryan Mulhern or Josh Morgan.

Saturday's annual alumni baseball game at South Alabama's renovated Stanky Field picked up a MVP-style upgrade for its home run derby competition.
"We told Louie since he has been winning the home run derby every year we thought we'd bring in some serious competition this time," South Alabama head coach Steve Kittrell joked. "Seriously, Louie is tops to us, and it's great that he and the other major leaguers -- guys like Jon Lieber, Marlon and Juan (Pierre) -- come back for the alumni game each year. And to have Albert Pujols agree to participate in the home run derby will make Saturday even more special, especially for our fans.
Sunday the Jags will host Grambling at 1:30 PM
