As i stated in last nights programme notes ,to say it has been a hectic week would be an understatement and feel that my feet havent had time to touch the ground since 'Socs' departure.
However i am relishing the opportunity that i have been given and results permitting wouldnt rule myself out of the managers role on a full time basis.During this interim time Pete Spacey will be acting as my number 2 when he returns from his short break on Sunday.Pete will bring vast non league experience and knowledge into the dressing room and undoubtedly has the respect this group of players.
On saturday we produced a 'gutsy' performance in the initial game at Hillingdon Borough to earn ourselves the replay but last night threw away the chance of progressing into the next round of the FA Trophy with an extra time defeat.
The effort of our young squad during the 120 minutes of football was unquestionable and with more clinical finishing we should have wrapped the tie up within 90 minutes.I am not one to criticise too strongly referees/assistants however last night i felt that as a group, their performances at this level of semi- professional football were sub-standard. All the players as you would imagine were devastated after the whistle and it is my job to pick them up between now and Saturdays big league game at home to Dunstable Town(who themselves lost in a Trophy replay last night).
On thing is for sure and that is all of the players and Officials are fully behind me at 'The Oval' and as long as i am in temporary charge of first team affairs i will be working as hard as i can on and off the pitch to improve both results and the squad itself.
On the Squad front since taking over as caretaker manager we have released goalkeeper Damien Quailey who felt his chances of first team football were limited due to Andrew Kemps steady start to the season and Gilbert Cummins has opted to join Solihull Moors of the Blue Square North Division. We wish both of them well .
In regards to other players who havent featured over recent games,Craig Davies had a minor car accident ten days ago and should get the all clear to resume training today (weds) and Tom Starkey will be available for Saturdays match following a family holiday.
We have as you are probably aware sent 7 days notice of approach in to Chasetown for their midfielder Ben Twigger ,and for Stratford Towns Nick Mowl who was a regular at Solihull Borough with Mickey Moore last term .... We are hopeful of having at least one of those lads involved in the squad for Saturdays game.
See you all in your 'loyal' numbers on Saturday.
Liam.
