Posted by BH Its been a decent month for the team and the club since the last update beating South Normanton at the second time of asking and then getting into the second qualifying round of the FA Cup, for the first time in many years by beating Eastwood Town, a feat which many associated with the club did not expect, bringing in again a further £3225 in revenue as prize money, an unfortunate defeat at Barton, giving the youngsters valuable experience at Burton, a point from a trip to Malvern and a very good victory at Chasetown in the Errea Cup. The month has also seen the departure of Carl Adams from his player coach role to join Coleshill Town as Manager in the Mid Comb Premier, he has also taken John Scott from his role as Youth Team Manager, inevitably when this happens the players who have a relationship with staff and who the staff rate tend to follow and whereas I had no concerns with first team players leaving or being approached as these are MY players, I did not want the Youth Team decimating and hence stated we required 7 days notice for ANY of our players. We subsequently received 7 days from Coleshill for Aston Jephcote and from Alvechurch for Ryan Scott, who mark my words will end up at Coleshill very shortly, I do not have any problems with that it is always difficult when your Dad wants you to play with his team, whatever the outcome we will retain their registration for this level of football should it not work out for them and they will obviously sign Youth Team forms for their new clubs as well. These movements have created openings and opportunities and Dave Formaston has been promoted to Youth Team Manager a job which he would have had next year so the process has just been accelerated somewhat and I am sure Dave will do exceptionally well as he will have to bring through lads who will have two years at Youth Team level so we have to be patient and let them develop and progress and not be focussed on results. With regards to an Assistant to me, I have spoken with no less than 15 high quality people about the role after some of the above ruled themselves out and some were discounted it was gradually whittled down to a final four, I had originally intended to work with two Coaches however this was not be and I am pleased to inform everyone that formally prior to the game on Saturday Liam O' Neill as the new Assistant Manager at the club. I have known Liam for years and he lives and breathes football he was a professional at Cheltenham for two years and has played hundreds of games not only at our current level but more importantly at the level above, he has, since Carl left been helping with training and warm ups and the lads have taken an instant liking and trust him implicitly, he is constructive with his discussions and it is a great opportunity for him to commence on his coaching career as his playing career comes to an end, although if you had been at Chasetown on Tuesday you would have seen he still has so much to offer playing so there may well be playing opportunities for him still as well as he has an important role with the club as we continue to develop David's three year plan. On the injury front Pete and Tom are progressing very well and Tom has resumed training something that miraculously Pete may do in another five weeks! Finally to the old faithful and my monthly thanks for the fantastic support and I more than anyone would dearly love for us get into the hat for the next round of the cup after our visit to Halesowen this week, to give you all something to cheer about, their Manager was at the game last night casting an eye and it will be a tough game but once again we can go and be relaxed and enjoy ourselves as they are quite clearly the favourites for the tie, but nothing less than 100% will be given by our lads and we will just have to see at 445pm if we can achieve that.
