A fascinating and unusual copperplate engraved antique historical map entitled within a simple cartouche ,
" AFRICA INTERIOR" .
Based on the earlier map of 1740 by Christopherus Cellarius this was engraved by W.H.Toms and published circa 1790.
This imaginative map shows the interior of Africa from the Atlantic coast to the Indian Ocean. The river Nile is shown with its apparent source being the mountains of the moon.
On a fine grade paper ,with original centrefold and blank verso save for the words AFRICA INTERIOR and some "doodling" with very light bleed through as evident from the scan.
Fine condition save for some light staining . Measuring approx. Measuring approx. 12" x 8" ( 300mm x 200mm ) map area only with margins beyond and eminently frameable.
