CAPE COLONY

Drawn & engraved by John Rapkin and published London circa 1850 by The London Printing and Publishing Company.
An interesting and desirable map of present day South Africa with great detail of the former Cape Colony and surrounding hinterland.
John Rapkin was a mapmaker who was as concerned with the aesthetic value of his work as well as cartographic content. His fine maps are distinguished by the trademark decorative borders and title displays. Rapkin worked in close association with the equally respected publisher John Tallis. The publishing rights of many of the maps passed to The London Printing and Publishing Company circa 1850.
Foldlines as issued. Fine, unmarked condition.
Approx. 13" x 10" (325mm x 250mm) including the borders. Good margins beyond. Would frame up beautifully.
