"CLEOPATRA'S NEEDLE & POMPEY'S PILLAR"
As they stood originally in Egypt.
Pompey's Pillar remains but Cleopatra's Needle which is the popular name for each of three Ancient Egyptian obelisks re-erected in London, Paris and New York during the nineteenth century.
A highly detailed, good sized copper engraved antique print, engraved by Milton after the French naturalist Charles Sonnini & published London, J.Stratford 1810 for
Cavendish Pelham's
"THE WORLD OR THE PRESENT STATE OF THE UNIVERSE BEING A GENERAL AND COMPLETE COLLECTION OF MODERN VOYAGES AND TRAVELS........".
Fine, virtually unmarked condition.
Measuring approx. 9" x 7" ( 230mm x 180mm) to the clearly defined platemark with generous margins beyond that. A scarce print that would frame up well for display.
