A detailed & interesting copper plate engraved antique print , entitled ,
"PLAN DU FORT ST. LOUIS DANS L'ISLE DE SANAGE OU DU SENEGAL."
A ground plan of the St Louis Fort which was established in 1659 by French traders on an uninhabited island called Ndar. It was named Saint-Louis-du-Fort in homage to the French king Louis XIV. It was the first permanent French settlement in Senegal.
Engraved by Schley for Antoine-François Prevost's, " L`Histoire Generale des Voyages"
and published circa 1760
On hand laid paper with original centre fold.
Blank verso and save for very light age toning , in fine condition.
Measuring approx. 12" x 8" ( 300mm x 200mm ) printed area only, with margins beyond. A crisp impression which would frame well.
