A detailed copper plate engraved antique sea chart entitled ,
" CARTE DE LA RIVIERE DE KALBAR ,
Appellee communment Kalabar ou Rio Real; avec Les Cotes Voisines.."
A fascinating 18th century nautical chart by the French cartographer Jacques Nicholas Bellin depicting the delta of the Kalabar (Calabar) River in Nigeria, Africa. Anchorages & soundings are shown in the Kalabar river and soundings along the coast. The landward side does not contain much detail as you would expect in the 18th century , with the exception of the Kalabar delta itself.
Engraved by Jacques Nicholas Bellin ( 1703 - 1772) for Antoine-François Prevost's, " L`Histoire Generale des Voyages"
and published circa 1750
On hand laid paper with original foldlines.
Blank verso and save for very light age toning , in fine, virtually unmarked condition.
Measuring approx. 14.5" x 8" ( 370mm x 200mm ) printed area only with good margins beyond. A crisp impression which would frame well.
