Conrad Malte-Brun (1775 -1826) was expelled from his native Denmark to Sweden for his sometimes violent political activities. From there he moved to Paris circa 1800 where he took up his cartographic career, becoming a leading publisher of maps. His son, Victor Adolphe Malte-Brun continued publication after his father's death in 1826.
