An interesting copper plate engraved antique map entitled,
"PLAN DE L'ISLE ET VILLE DE QUILOA",
a fine bird’s eye view of the fort and settlement on Kilwa island .
Kilwa ( Quiloa) is a small island off the east coast of Africa, part of what is now Tanzania. To distinguish it from the other sites named Kilwa, this island is referred to as Kilwa Kisiwani.
Engraved by Jacques Nicholas Bellin for Antoine-François Prevost's
" L`Histoire Generale des Voyages"
and published by Pierre de Hondt, The Hague between 1747 -1780.
On hand laid paper without folds and in fine virtually unmarked condition.
Measuring approx.9" x 6" ( 230mm x 150mm ) map area only with margins beyond, a crisp impression which would frame well.
