Hey Karma. If CAST! were any more laid back it would make Linda Blair chill. Great disk; it really takes you back to a purer form of jazz.
I like the clever name but what happens if you grow the band? Suddenly the “T” for trio won’t work anymore so you’d have to rename to CAST! Plus or something. I’m thinking maybe a groovier name like “Rad Dudes” might have been a better choice.
I’m not sure I get the meaning of the name “Coolidge Returns” for this disk. I’m guessing it has something to do with a pet lama named “Coolidge” that ran away to the big city, found it a little too rough there for his liking and decided to return to the farm. This might be the wrong interpretation, so how about breaking down the meaning for me here?
Anyway, great first album (do they still call these things albums?), or recording anyway. Julian Coryell is carrying his father’s mantle here and Nicklas Sample grooves softly on bass. Any chance you youngsters will let the grown ups share a few licks in an upcoming CAST! recording some day? All the best,
