Granted, cold trails are much harder to detect, than hot trails, by a power of ten.
There are still today several WORKING breeds that can achieve this.
The problem with Bloodhounds, is that the breed in general has been turned into a pet. I don't know personally, of a single hunter that would even consider using them.
People that actually work dogs, have minimum expectations that a pet can never come close to achieving.
HUNTERS FEAR their favorite breed of becoming registered by the AKC. That will seal the death of their favorite breeds. From that day on, the breed is doomed to become pets.
If ANY breeders ONLY goal, is ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE SPECIFIC JOB, they are making pets.
Pets get culled early, in any WORKING HOME.
Hence, working homes fear buying ANY breed, that they will invest money and time in, only to cull.
Basically, unless they come from the last 100 generations of proven WORKING dogs, you are buying a pet.
