I've got to agree with Rayna. In most cases it is about the money. If I break even, I'm happy. I'm more about producing good dogs and making families happy reguardless of their financial situation. I've given away or bartered with more than i've "sold".
My dogs and I bond very very strongly to one another. With Precious, she had made her own nest, where... in our closet with our clothes and I wasn't home when she started whelping and where did she have them?? In my recliner where the 4 that were born before I got home were squished. She would have had them in my bed had I left the bedroom door open. WHy? Because thats where we lay, thats where we sit and those clothes and shoes have our smell. She ahd a whelping box with her stuff in it and prefered ours.
When Vader started her whelp, she went and hid on her own in her area and then brought me the pups. I let her whelp her on her own and she would continuously bring them to me to be near me. Same went for Porsche, she wanted me there and I nly interfered when she was too exhausted. (she had 20 pups).
Early imprinting in my oppinion is a great thing. I imprint my foals and my calves from birth with in the first 24 hours. Just handling them letting them get my my scent, ect.
I do have to agree that too much handling can change and hinder their mental growth as well.
