Posted by Ricky Boyd H. Roberts SANDLICK — Boyd H. Roberts, 88, of Route 1, Bluefield (Sandlick Road), went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007 at Bland County Nursing Home in Bastian, Va. Born Nov. 7, 1918 at Lamar, he was the son of the late Jesse G. Roberts and Cora I. Bailey Roberts. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. Roberts worked for United Pocahontas Fuel Co. for 38 years as a continuous mine operator and was a member of the local union U.M.W.A. 6196 of Northfork. He was an avid fox hunter having fox hounds for over 70 years. He loved farming, gardening and mowing his grass. He and his wife, Gertrude, were faithful to the Sandlick United Methodist Church since moving to Sandlick in 1973. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ivory Roberts Graham and Delma Roberts Smith; and an infant brother. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Gertrude L. Roberts of Sandlick Road; one daughter, Rita Randolph of South Amhurst, Ohio; two sons, Reverend Larry B. Roberts and his wife Judy and Tommy W. Roberts and his wife Arlene all of Sandlick; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and nine great, great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2007 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with his son, the Rev. Larry B. Roberts officiating, assisted by his grandson, the Rev. Travis Bailey. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Princeton. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends today from 6-9 p.m. at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
