Bit types/descriptions seem to change over the years just like horse colors-LOL. When we were younger, there were curb bits, snaffles, and tom thumbs being used most frequently. And most "Shanked Snaffles" seem to have developed from the tom thumb, or so it seems anyways. Then there were your English bits; that I know practically nothing about.
