Do they tend to pee in the house despite housebreaking?
I had a small dog a long time ago and do recall accidents, but can't remember if she continued to pee/poop inside when she was an adult. I'm considering a small dog again.
Thanks!

I don't have much experience with small dogs, but don't think so if they are really housebroken.
My chi/terrier foster dog last winter peed a few times, but it was more to mark her territory and she stopped after a short while.
Her puppies weren't completely housebroken when they left for their new homes, but I heard later from one new owner, that her puppy was easier to housebreak than any other dog she'd ever owned.
I think it's all about being consistent and clear in the beginning.
A rat terrier, a Jack Russell, and a jack yorkie cross. They have a doggie door and know how to use it. Never have a problem. I have had lots of other small dogs with no problems. I have heard that Chi's have more problems with learning the do and donts of housebreaking than other dogs. My mom has a chi yorkie that will mark me if he is frightened. Extremely annoying when I take him to the vet. I will always have a small dog love them.

Every one will bust a gut before peeing/pooing in their crates. They go outside before we go to bed at night, then into their crates.
Here's the thing, they were all trained the same way, they are all different, I buy female quilted diapers for the girls with suspenders, and quilted wrap diapers for the boys, from great Ebay seller, I have relatively new carpet and want to keep it that way!I put diapers on them all when loose in the house for the reasons below:
Baby, a chihuahua/poodle: She will pee/poop when she gets mad, she will go in and pee or poop on the carpet in our bathroom or ON our bed!
Stubby: male fixed chihuahua, he will not pooh in the house but WILL mark anything that is plastic, even if you bring in a grocery bag from the store, put it on the kitchen floor to go get another from the car, that little guy will mark it!
Teeny Weeny: a tiny female fixed chihuahua : She will squat and pee and poop if she has been hiding/sleeping and we don't realize it. She won't go near the door though, she'll go hide it, so she KNOWS what she's doing!
Sasha: Sheltie: The ONLY time she'll have an accident is if she has people food or gets into her puppy's food, then she will get diarrhea and pooh thru the night, so we fixed that by not allowing puppy or human food, problem fixed.
Misha: Sheltie: She'll hold it, no peeing or poohing at all, anytime.
Dallas: Male Sheltie: No poohing, but he (like Stubby) will mark ANYTHING, especially if someone visits with a dog.
Major: Male (fixed) Boxer/Husky/Viszla: He will hold it and run to the door and whine. No marking, no "accidents", it took him until he was about 6 months before he kept his crate dry thru the night though, but now, he makes a beeline for the door in the morning and takes the longest pee I've ever seen,LOL.
Little dogs are harder to train, I swear they are, the bigger the dog, the better they are at training I've found. JMHO
