Ok so I had to put down my girl dog a few days ago due to gastric torsion. The vet couldn't really enlighten me on it, on what causes it or if it's preventable or anything. So I guess that's my first question, can anyone enlighten me on it and if some breeds are more susceptible to it? He said something about deep chested dogs, but I was kinda half listening by that point.
Second, my boy dog is depressed and lonely. He eats and drinks and everything but it's clear he's not happy (mainly he's not active or playful). I plan to get another pound puppy when we get a break in the rain, but is there anything I can do for my guy in the meantime? I've been able to take him with me just about everywhere but I start working next week and he'll have to stay home alone (unless I drive 15 miles the opposite direction of work to drop him off at my mom's house). I don't think I'll have another buddy by the time I start work. He is pretty attached to me right now (I left for an hour to go to the gym and rather than hang out on the deck with the barn kids he sat out in the rain to wait for me to come back). I don't want to crate him, or leave him alone inside the house for 8+ hours (no doggie door) and I worry about leaving him at the barn in his kennel by himself (it's a nice pen/kennel but he'll sit out in the rain rather than on his deck or in his house). What are some suggestions?
