As a lot of you may know, we have been dealing with this for around 3years now. We have Dakota, our 6 year old black girl. We have Bailey, our 4year old boxer bullmastiff and we have 3 year old Maddie who is a sister to Bailey. All have been through obedience classes, although Bailey is our "college graduate" since she went through 3 courses. She was the star pupil.
Anyhow, around 3 years ago, Bailey, out of nowhere would attack Dakota. The only warning I would get was by a look she would get in her eye. Nothing unusual would be taking place necessarily....she would just attack and not back down. Dakota will fight back. All of the dogs usually get along really well. I have noticed that these fights tend to occur during the summer months.
We had been fine for a year. Yesterday it happened again. I wasn't home, but apparently from what the hubby says, the dogs were just hanging out in the backyard, and Bailey went on the attack. An added on problem now is that Maddie will join in. My hubby was alone and had a very difficult time pulling them off of each other. I am certain that if were just myself or my daughter at home, the results could have been so much more devastating.
I don't know what to do. Both Dakota and Bailey have been to the vet. Both stapled up, both on antibiotics. My hubby wants me to have the two boxers put down, and for the time being they have both been in their outdoor kennel. I am at my wits end. As stated, they are all very well mannered dogs, get along very well together, know and abide by any commands, but Bailey seems to have this "losing her mind episodes".
Our dogs are our family. I don't believe that Maddie would show any aggression at all.....she is our biggest "wimpy dog", but when the attack starts she joins in. I am at my wits end.
Thank you for any advice. Between the laminitis with Sonny this year, and now another dog fight my vet bills have escalated so much that I wiss I could claim their medical on my income taxes.
