Dozer is an approximately 2 year old yellow Lab, rescued from a San Jose shelter before being euthanized. The shelter said he was stressed in there). He either escaped or was dumped in a rural area with no tags or chip, and no one claimed him. Whoever had him did very little work with him.
He was neutered about a month ago prior to going to his temporary foster home. He weighs approximately 80 pounds
He is very sweet, and just wants to be loved, but because he had little training and was probably kept in the yard, he has no idea how big he is and has relieved in the house a few times.
Does not have a mean bone in his body, but can be food aggressive which is being worked on and has gotten better. Because of this, a home with small children would not be advised. He's not mean, but if he sees food he doesn't see the hand that's holding it.
He has been in a foster home with an older Lab that has not taken well to having another dog in his life, as well as two little girls (aged 2 and 5) that are there for daycare. Because their older dog (11) is not dealing well with the new addition, and because they do have the small girls there, they feel it's in everyone's best interest if another home, foster or adoptive, is found ASAP.
They have been working with him on obedience. He's a smart boy and wants to please. He is strong, so working with a head collar or halti is recommended. When they first picked him up he had no idea how to be submit to a correction, but has come along nicely.
We'd also recommend keeping him on a leash in the house, or on a long line to ensure he doesn't have any accidents.
A home with a confident & experienced human, and preferably no other dogs or kids while his kinks are worked out, would be preferred. He absolutely loves people and loves to play with the other dog, but really needs to have some one on one training and bonding right now.
If you're interested, or know someone who might be a good match to either foster and train, or adopt, please let me know and I can put you in touch with the person that worked to rescue him and is looking for alternative placement.
Thank you!
Stacie
