Hello,
I happened to see this board just recently and I hope some people still see this site, for I am afraid that there has not been many messages sent recently.
I am a Japanese and I would like to apologise deeply to those who fell victims during the second world war. I know I am just an individual and my apology does not change anything, but I am deeply concerned that most Japanese do not know about the true stories behind the war. I learned about this Nanjing Massacre and other horrible things Japanese soldiers engaged in during the war time through one of my history teachers from high school. I also had a study tour to Hiroshima and Nagasaki two years back, and we had the chance to have an interview with a Korean A-bomb victim. Had he not been forced to work in Japan, he would have not been bombed! The organisors of this tour apologised him with tears and all of the participants also felt so guilty about this. I speak to all Japanese, try to learn the turth! Of course what happened in Hiroshima and Nagasaki was nothing that can be forgotten, and the fact that the bombs were dropped should never happen again in the future, and we have the duty to tell that to the world, but at the same time we MUST KNOW that we were NOT THE ONLY VICTIMS! War can create such a disaster, and that's the reason why we MUST STOP it. It only leaves scars and hatred in our minds.I really hope that the Japanese governmnet would NOT change its constitution to enable our own counrty to hold army again. I myself would personally rather be attacked and die than to hold a gun to shoot somebody else. Not even for counterattack. we do not need army, we do not want any more war. The government of Japan must apologise to other Asian countries, otherwise we have no right to claim for what happened in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We need to know ALL of the truth, not partial. The teachers in Japanese schools have the obligation to teach students about everything. I am glad that I was lucky enough to have the teachers I had who taught us everything, who were concerned about these issues.
I hope my apology would be heard and accepted, and together we can work towards peace. Rico
