I recently purchased a 1996 Chevy Cavalier Z-24 with the 2.4 dual overhead cam 4 cylinder. The vehicle has 115,000 miles on it and according to my Haynes manual has a chain driving the dual cams instead of the usual belt. My question is: does anyone know when the cam chain should be changed ? I can't find anything in the owner's manual or the repair manual as far as a guideline. I haven't contacted a repair shop or a dealer yet as am sceptical to what they would say. Car seems to run fine and if it's not neccessary I will probably put it off for a while. Would imagine it's several hundred dollars to replace. Thanks.
