Posted by Jeff Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jeff and I serve as adjuct faculty in the Sports Medicince/Athletic Training program at Sowuthwest Missouri State University. Before researching schools, I would first encourage your daughter to "shadow" a Certified Athletic Trainer(ATC)to make sure athletic training is indeed what she wants to do for a profession. In my adjunct faculty position, each spring I assist with the screening of applications for admittance to our program. I am suprised how many students do not fully understand the daily responsibilities of a ATC. I would suggest she consider universities that have an accredited program in athletic training and a program that is established. Futhermore, may I suggest she consider a program that offers its students several experiences in a variety of settings(sports medicine clinic, high school, and university). I invite you and your daughter to vist the sports medicine/athletic training web site at www.smsu.edu/sportmed. --Previous Message--

Tina,
: My daughter is a junior in High School and she
: wants to pursue AT and/or Exercise
: Physiology. We live in TN. She wants to be
: an AT and/or Strength and Conditioning
: specialists for a pro team or college team
: one day. Any recommendations on colleges
: with the best AT programs and internships
: with pro teams. I know tuition costs will
: vary considerably especially if she attends
: out-of-state, which we are willing to do, to
: give her the best experience and education
: for her future. If the college is
: accredited is there a difference in the
: degree and exposure if it's a divI or DivII
: college?
