David- Like I said before, the work-study is at a college, not a high school-there is no high school involved. Basically, I have the same duties as an ATS, with more hours. I go to A.T. forums and conferences. Right now I am working on my undergrad in Health & Human Performance working toward my MS in A.T. The college does have a "full-time" ATC and it also has a grad-assistant ATC-as I mentioned before. I stay with in my knowledge. If there is something that I don't know, which usually occurs often, I just ask one of the ATCs which is always there right next to me and they answer questions--Just like an ATS. To be honest, there really is not a lot of work for even 2 ATCs right now anyway-let alone 3. So relax.
: : I've never seen a work-study program like
: your in. Are you working toward an ATC
: certification at the college you are
: attending? I find it kind of odd that the
: college you are attending is paying you to
: work at a high school as a ATC aid.
: I am not surprised that the college athletic
: department is not paying for it. I look at
: what your doing as just one more way to avoid
: paying for full time ATC services. Instead of
: hiring more than one full time ATC, the high
: school found another way to hire cheap part
: time employees. I'm not blaming you or saying
: what you are doing is wrong. I blame the
: over-all ATC job market that consistantly
: finds everyway possible to short cut hiring
: full time professional ATC staff. In the end
: it is the athletic training profession that
: gets screwed!

: For Experience, of course, but as a college
: student, there comes a time when you can't do
: things for free because you focus so much of
: your time to studies and athletic training in
: general. And as a 4 yr. ATS in a high school
: working with more sports in high school than
: college. I accumulated more experience in
: high school (2500+ hrs volunteer experience)
: than grad students have, or any students
: going into any AT program in college. Sure,
: you might think that the pay is high, but
: remember that is a work-study through the
: college. The financial aid office sets the
: high limit of how much I can earn, so I
: calculate out how much I can make in such a
: period of time. So why not gett paid while
: going to school. I see this opportunity not
: only as a work-study but more as a job. I
: stay with in the boundries of my knowledge,
: supervised by an ATC and a ATC
: Grad-Assistant. If I have questions, I can
: always ask the ATC there whether it is the
: Grad-Assistant, or the Head ATC. The
: athletic training program does not pay me,
: the college does through a work-study.

: : I've been an ATC for about 15 years and
: I've
: worked in 4 different states. I have never
: heard of an ATLT. I would find it amazing for
: an athletic training program to pay anyone
: for part-time work in a training room other
: than a graduate assistant. There are too many
: people doing it for free (ie. for expeience}
: for them to pay someone.
