3.1 chevy motor

I have a 1995 chevy monte carlo with a blown motor, it is a 3.1 and I am told there is 2 differant 3.1, the only differance they tell me is in the AC mounting bracket, wether it is drilled and tap or not, will either engine work in the car without having to change anything else?
