The word trump, as you may know, is an aged English word meaning to break wind. It is still used in polite circles and families. Two trumpers of some note were King Henry the Eighth and the present monarch Queen Elizabeth, or to give her married name Betty Battenburg. Of course in the company of these nobles it is wise to act as though nothing had happened if they were to trump. But I must relate an occasion when the Queen was seated next to a head of state at a grand dinner in his honour when she let out a real rip-roarer. Even she had to make same comment and turning her head she addressed her footman who stood nearby and said, James stop that. James bent down towards her and in a measured voice said, yes ma’am which way did it go?
Wow, what a great story! Thanks for passing it along. And learning the meaning of the word "trump" has shed light on many current mysteries I've been trying to understand. From now on, every time I hear the phrase "Trump tweets" or read the same words in a news headline, a whole new level of meaning will open up to me. Thanks, Bob!
