Sitting in the conservatory yesterday taking afternoon tea my wife suddenly said ‘Taylor, did Mr Kent travel far in LA since regaining his driving permit?’ ‘Not that I know of’ I said. ‘And what became of his hernia op?’ she said. ‘Come to think of it I really don’t know that either’ I said. ‘Could he be persuaded to send news of the impact of the drought in his area then, short, not more than 500 words?’ ‘Possible’ I said.

I didn't know she cared. The cost of gasoline keeps me pretty close to home. Although the hernias have been removed, that may not be the end of that problem; we'll see. The drought persists, writing finis to my lawn and shrubs and maybe a tree or two. But this is nothing compared to what the dry spell is causing north of here: out-of-control fires destroying thousands of acres of forest. I count my blessings. -- Fran
