Interested in hearing about men who may have served with the Naval Armed Guard aboard the Dutch merchant ship M. S. Tosari during WW II. My father, Lt Frank E. Curran, was one of them and I have a picture of me sitting on one of the ship's guns when my mother and I came for a visit when the ship was in port at Long Beach, Calif.

Hello, I just wanted to chime in and say, My dad was one of the Armed Guard on the M.S. Tosari. My Dad died 4 years ago. His name was John Congrove. I also knew another member of the crew, a man by the name of Joe Orffeo. He is also deceased. Between the 2 men, I did hear a couple stories. Convoys and other of our ships sunk by subs, and our guys killing Japanese subs. These memories were never really talked about until late in their lives. I found Joe online, and he and my Dad spoke often on the phone for several years, until my Dad's passing, and afterwards Joe would call me, and we would talk. I'm sure you are proud of your Dad as well. I look online every now and then, and search M.S. Tosari. My Dad always spoke highly of their Gunnery officer, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was Lt. Curran he spoke of. I wish there was more information about the Armed Guard. Take care, Shipmate.
