Hello, my name is Richard J. Maple. I served on the S.S. Horace Binney as a Gunner's Mate 3rd Class. I am 91 years old and live in Mundelein, IL. I am writing to say that I am alive and well and would like to tell this group that I have newspaper clippings and pictures of the entire Armed Guard crew that served on the S.S. Horace Binney when it was torpedoed on the morning of May 8th, 1945. I was on this ship from September- 1944 and made several trips across the Atlantic. After the war, I returned to Peoria, IL, married and we have three children. We recently celebrated out 71st wedding anniversary.
