Jim,
Information that I have been able to find indicates that SS REDSTONE arrived in New York on 23 June 1945 from Swansea, England, and was expected to sail on 25 June to Port Arthur, Texas, and onward from there to Balboa, Canal Zone. Since Balboa is at the Pacific end of the Canal Zone, that suggests a Pacific voyage. Another source confirms a 25 June departure from New York. That's all I have been able to find and admittedly it's not much.
The official logs of arriving U.S. flag merchant ships were turned over to the Coast Guard at the arrival port, and then were eventually forwarded to the National Archives and Records Administration regional facility nearest to that port. If the voyage ended in Houston, the log presumably is to be found at the National Archives facility in Fort Worth (see http://www.archives.gov/fort-worth/ for contact information). Archive staff may be able to photocopy information for you, for some fee of course.
Good luck.

Thanks Ron. I found Dad's application for a DD-214 that he subitted to the USCG in the late 1980's. He listed that he had not received three medals; Atlantic Service, Pacific Service and Victory Medal. All of the other paperwork I have is for Atlantic convoys and coastwise movements. It fits that he made it to the Pacific aboard the Redstone in the fall/winter of 1945. Thanks again for info on Fort Worth.

I owe you more info before you do my research for me- Dad passed away June 19, 2013. Follow WWII, he took a break then joined the Army Reserve. He went back on active duty in 1950 and retired as a Master Sergeant in 1976.
I've already found the info I need on the follow- Cahawba (He was 17 when he set sail as a messman) Andrew A Humphreys Gulfbreeze Eliza Jane Nicholson Jacob Thompson Bear Paw
There are gaps in the paperwork I've found. I have no idea if he retained every ship discharge.
