I just rediscovered your site with enough time to research you. A few years ago I wrote the novel "The Gauntlet 1943 - 1945" based upon the experiences of a V12 Naval Officer I met in 1945. (I was a torpedoman, USNR, and had north Atlantic exposure.) True, it is fiction, however I spent many hours researching the myriad reports and experiences of others. The story has a lot of wartime adventure on the road to Murmansk and south of there including some wartime romance and closed door sex. This book is published as an e-book available from booklocker.com, Kindle, Nook, Ipod and others. I feel sure your members will be interested. (It is not expensive.) Thank You - - Warren Smith

In about '45, an older cousin, gave me a book (I was about 13) that I think was titled "The Gauntlet". I was enthralled by it, after I got into it half-way. A most exciting part was where the main character, captured in the far-east, was forced to actually run a deadly gauntlet. Could that have been this book?
