Just wanted to let you know that Patrick Clancey, who has maintained the HyperWar website (www.ibiblio.com/hyperwar) for many years, passed away unexpectedly recently. Patrick's dream was to retain for future generations as much information on World War II as possible. Over the years, he was able to get his hands on a significant number of documents that would otherwise never be seen by us or future generations.
I worked with Patrick to try to capture as many Armed Guard and convoy related documents as the Navy would provide. Over the past several years, we have managed to publish thousands of pages of information on these topics, which you have graciously promoted here.
Patrick's partner in crime is trying to keep the site going, but Patrick will be greatly missed as he had so any "back-door" contacts for getting hold of valuable research material.
In addition to being a great historian, he also has the distinction of being the very first commercial web master on the planet.
Like so many other of our Armed Guard friends, he will be sadly missed. I am honored to have been able to say he was a friend.
Sorry for my long silence on the board. I will try to be more active.
Best wishes to all.
Rick

Rick, I just saw your recent posting about the passing of a friend. A truly sad but inevitable day for each of us. I'm happy he WAS able to accomplish so much great work. Incidentally, do you have many details about convoy UGS-48 when we were attacked on 1 August 1944 off North Africa? I have some but I would appreciate more. Thanks a lot. Roy Brown
