USAT Josiah Nelson Cushing

Does anyone have information on this ship's role in the D-Day landings? In particular, what was the cargo and to which beach was it assigned? I believe the Cushing offloaded June 7.

I have two "short snorters" signed by about four dozen of the merchant crew and armed guard. Both notes are marked "Invasion Bill." Also written along the margins are all the ship's ports-of-call from the time it left NYC in March 1944. I will post scans of the notes and names if there is interest. Thanks.

My father was on that ship from 03-08-44 thru 012245. I have French marks with the words Dday invasion written around the outline. His name was F. Rae (Bud) Surprenant. From what I can find they carried troops and tanks. Any additional information would be great. I also have some pictures but am not sure if it from the JNC. Would be happy to share. Thanks

Your father signed both of the notes I have! He signed as "Bud." I can send you scans of them if interested. I would also like to see the notes you have.

I woul love to see anything you have. I have to find the francs I described but i have his sheepshead bay graduation class, with a couple of issues of the heaving line. I have lists of letters but will have to check the dates to make sure they were when he was on the JNC. I am just starting to scann everything he had and will be happy to share.
