My wife and her parents were prisoners of the Japanese in the Philippines during WWII. After their rescue they sailed from Manila to San Pedro, California in 1945 on the SS John Lykes. We are looking for a picture of the ship and any other picture that might have been taken of the passengers on that voyage. The ship carried both military and civilian passengers. We would like permission to use the picture in the book we are writing.

I'm looking for any information regarding my father's, Alvin H. Rhoades, service on this ship during WWII. All I have is a "Seamans Allotment Note" dated 5-19-1945, bound "Westward of Los Angeles" voyage, which payed a $50.00 monthly allotment. My father rarely talked about his service, but I know he was in the South Pacific. He died in 1986, and I'd like to tell my sons more about their grandfather. I thank you for any help you can give.

My mother in law Jean Salet was also on that ship. Look up images on google and you will find it. Best Geoff

Hello Tom, Sorry that I don't have a picture for you, but my Dad was among the Armed Guard crew on The SS John Lykes during the Summer of 1945, so I will be anxious to read your book. Good luck with your search. Best Regards, Jim Nelson Father's name: George M. Nelson S1c
